About the Artist

Elsie Rippel

It's all about the joy!

Chapter One

Growing up in New Orleans, I sang in every choir I could. Started college in the mid '50s majoring in Acting/Theater, but that was swiftly dropped for something “more practical,” Speech Education. It was a generational thing — career was not considered, getting married was. It took my divorce in Michigan, 20 years later, to finally be able to fly — dancing and acting in community theater musicals. Even had 4 leads.

Question: So, where was the artist?
Answer: Slowly evolving, building up self esteem and the capacity to believe in myself.

Chapter Two

Moved to a spiritual community in New York State for two years and began creating items to sell in the gift shop. In 1995, moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico, and the creativity just kept coming: polymer clay jewelry and sculptural pieces, clocks, masks, mobiles of all kinds, book making, home decor and always, the paper art. Made card creations for friends and family for every event. A weekend marathon of creating, found me collaging cards in a whole different way. I was in the “zone” and it was delicious! So, a few years later, here I am over 70, having begun a greeting card business in order to spread the joy to a wider audience. It was a natural evolution to connect service to spreading the joy.

Hope you feel the joy, which has taken me a lifetime to uncover. And, if you haven't guessed, my passion is color.
